Intro to Disc Dog

  • Tuesdays at 8pm starting on September 24. Class dates are Sept 24, Oct 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. 6 weeks program for $225+gst

This amazing class will teach you and your dog foundation skills needed for Disc Dog and some of the games in the Up Dog Challenge.  This sport has taken off in Calgary and the reason is that it’s so much fun for dogs and handlers. It’s easy to play disc at home with your dog once you learn the skills.Topics include throwing technique, retrieval work, how to get your dog to catch a disc, proper position to send your dog, some fun disc tricks and games.You can repeat this class as many times as you like as we will continue to build your individual skills with your dog.

Pre-Requisite: Toy Drive (this means that your dog enjoys playing with toys, and will run and chase after toys.  They do not need to be bringing it back yet, this is a skill we work on in this class)

Disc Dog Tricks

This fun filled class will cover foundation skills and tricks to create an amazing Freestyle routine. Many of the tricks you see in high level routines have a lot of work behind them. This class is suitable for any dog that is already chasing and catching a disc.

Pre-Requisite:

  • Have completed the intro to disc class OR instructor approved
  • Suitable for dogs that are already chasing and catching discs

Disc Dog Games

  • Tuesdays at 6:45pm starting on November 5. Class dates are Nov 5, 12, 19, 26, Dec 10 and 17. 6 weeks program for $225+gst

This class will introduce you and your dog to every game played in Up Dog Challenge which is the disc organization that is most often played in competitions in Western Canada currently.  You will learn the strategies behind each game and how to best set up your dog for success while playing.

Pre-Requisite:

  • Have completed the intro to disc class OR instructor approved
  • Suitable for dogs that are already chasing and catching discs

Our Disc Dog Classes are taught by Kara Bellingham

Have fun with your dog, communicate with your dog and connect with your dog is Kara’s training philosophy!  Enjoy and learn from every training moment, improve in what the team is doing and push to get to the next level!

Kara has a true love for all dogs and dog sports.  She and her dogs perform with the Presidents Choice Superdogs, she is a certified trick dog instructor through Do More With Your Dog (CTDI), is a supporting member of IAABC (International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants), and is a certified Head Judge and Trainer for Disc with UpDog.  She trains and has competed in Agility (AAC), Nosework, Dock Diving and Disc Dog, with her true passion being Freestyle Disc.  Kara trained under Marion Paulson in disc dog and has attended many seminars including PVYBE with Ron Watson and Apryl Lea, Freestyle Disc with Andrea Rigler, Freestyle Disc and Dog Dance with Lucka Plevova, Freestyle Disc with Shaun Hirai, and many more!  She continues to attend seminars whenever possible.  Kara has travelled across Western Canada and through the USA where she has competed and placed in Skyhoundz, AWI, UFO and UpDog.

Kara shares her home with her husband Shawn Bellingham who is an UpDog Judge and their three dogs Piper, Electric and Treble who go everywhere with them! She is an active front member of the Calgary Disc Dog Club, they host competitions, fun matches and learning sessions where she has helped train many new disc teams. Disc in Alberta is a very up and coming sport, her goal is to keep watching this sport grow here!
