About High Tails Pet Resort

High Tails Pet Grooming began in 2009. Debbie Zelez is the owner of the company. She contributes the wisdom she obtained from extensive and unique experiences in the animal services industry.

Debbie’s grooming experience began 10 years ago when she worked as a bather and prepared the dogs for finishing in a Calgary salon. While teaching high school science for eight years, she did grooming jobs for family and friends.

Looking for a career change, but not quite ready to become an entrepreneur, Debbie worked as part of the management team for the Calgary Humane Society. It was there where she honed her skills in safe animal handling, understanding animal body language, animal care and specialized stress reduction techniques. These skills allow Debbie to be able to assess the individual needs of every pet she encounters.

Excited to use these skills in her own business, Debbie began to refine her grooming skills. Debbie continues on a path of life long learning to be able to provide humane education and training tips with her clients. Debbie’s aspires to expand High Tails Pet Grooming to High Tails Pet Resort where a variety of services such as boarding, training and daycare services will be offered in addition to grooming. As early as 2012, Debbie plans to move her business to an acreage location to achieve her goal.
