Copper’s family came for their visit today and witnessed something pretty cool!
The stages of learning of any living being are fascinating to observe.
Today Copper’s family, combined with myself, Brittney and Kelsey witnessed baby Copper transferring knowledge from one situation to a brand new one. Recall that Copper loves the slide (see Day 6). Every time he goes through the Daycare room, he plays on it. Never in a million years did I foresee what happened outside today! We filled the kiddie pool with a little bit of water to see if Copper would like to play in it. The kiddie pool has a slide on it. None of us have EVER witnessed a dog wanting to use the slide – they typically avoid it and simply jump in over the sides. Not Copper! He wouldn’t go in the pool UNLESS he used the slide! We threw some little apples in the pool to create interest. Copper circled the pool trying to figure out how to get in. It was like you could SEE him thinking. Then he discovered the perfect entry point – the slide! HILARIOUS! If the video is shaky, it’s because I couldn’t stop laughing. Oh, and by the way, yes Copper like the water and he did eventually try to figure out a short cut to take to get the apples out of the pool. Bobbing for Apples Puppy-Style!

Copper’s family got to practice sit, down, slide and door-crashing (anti door-crashing). We will typically wait until a behaviour is solid until we show it on line. We’ve got plenty of new ones on the go! Stay tuned…
