This weather is a brand new experience for Copper.

Copper thinks it’s cold! Hey wait, I think we’re ALL thinking that. SO funny to watch Copper in the yard today confused by all the leaves whipping by him. He looked like he couldn’t decide if it would be more fun to chase leaves or play with his friends as he bounced back and forth between them. Friend update: Copper won’t be able to paly with his Big Pal Cona for awhile. Cona had knee surgery and is out of commission. Copper can still visit his pen and nuzzle him through the chain link.
Copper seemingly forgot “Shake Paw” today! We’ll pick it again tomorrow – we know how smart he is!
“Get in” is looking good especially with a lure. Anything works well with a lure for Copper and his beagle nose!
Good thing he’s food motivated! Dogs are typically motivated by two things: food and attention. We start training with treats as the primary reward, then phase them out. Copper has already been phased out of treats for the anti-door crashing behaviour and sit. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t get treats any more when he does those behaviours, just not every time. Variety and switching it up also helps to keep dogs motivated and interested.
